Jim Rome (a.k.a. Van Smack) is the nation's top sports personality and legendary host of the Jim Rome Show. His nationally syndicated radio show airs on 130 stations throughout the United States and Canada. Rome's "tell it like it is" approach has earned him the title of "the King of Smack." Famous sports figures like Shaquille O'Neal, Mike Piazza, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Troy Aikman, Evander Holyfield, Don King, Oscar De La Hoya and sportscasters Bob Costas and Al Michaels all have appeared on his show. Known for his aggressive yet informed approach, many of our nation's top coaches and athletes have developed a deep respect for Rome's talent allowing him to tap into a side of them not normally visited. Subsequently, Jim Rome has cultivated a large following of sports fans interested in the core values and belief systems held by America's most influential sports figures.
What goes on during the The Jim Rome Show? Callers, also known as clones, will phone in with their best take on what's happening in the world of sports. Rome listens intently and either "runs" the caller with the buzzer, meaning disconnects the call or he allows them to finish their take and says," rack 'em", meaning save the call as an entry into the huge call of the day contest. Rome states very clearly that the rules of the show are simple: "Have a take and do not suck or you will get run." These words can be heard echoing daily from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. pacific standard time. For a list of affiliate stations please click here.
